What to Eat at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market: A Jeju Food Guide

all the citrus fruits that grow and are sold in jeju island can be found at the seogwipo market, mandarines, hallabong, and oranges.
If you’re heading to Jeju and love trying local food, Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market is a must. From sizzling black pork to sweet Hallabong treats, here’s what to eat and where to find it.

We stayed near Seogwipo, which meant we could return to this vibrant market again and again—and honestly, we never got tired of it. Over several visits, we ate our way through a wide range of food stalls and discovered a few favorites we kept coming back to. If you’ve enjoyed street food in Seoul or Busan, this market deserves a spot on your itinerary. It’s the perfect place to experience Jeju’s unique flavors all in one place. From comforting abalone porridge to crispy Korean fried chicken, it didn’t take long for us to see why this place is so beloved by locals and travelers alike. We also made a list with our favorite dishes to try in South Korea, if you need some food inspiration.

Market’s Main Entrance

HALLABONG HEAVEN

Jeju Island is famous for its amazing fruits, especially the juicy Hallabong oranges with their sweet flavor and unique bump on top. Grown in Jeju’s rich volcanic soil, these fruits taste like sunshine and are packed with vitamins. The island is also known for its super sweet tangerines, delicious apples, and strawberries. At this market you can buy the hallabong orange with the vendors or try it in juice, snacks, pancakes, ice cream and cakes.

TIP | Skip the Hallabong orange ice cream—it doesn’t taste like orange at all and felt like a scam.

To find all the locations, we recommended you on Naver Map, stay connected with an eSIM. We love saving on roaming fees and being able to find anything we need on the go.

Have you ever heard of Jeju peanuts? They’re actually grown on the nearby Udo Island. Known for their rich flavor, these peanuts are the star ingredient in Udo’s famous peanut makgeolli—a must-try when visiting. But that’s not all the island has to offer: think dramatic coastal views, turquoise waters, and a laid-back vibe that makes it perfect for a day trip. Curious? steamed buns vegetariand and with black pork at seogwipo market in jeju island

Inside the Market

KOREAN STEAMED BUNS

We couldn’t resist stopping by Jeseong Bakery in the evenings to grab some buns for dinner and breakfast. With flavors like cream cheese and chives, eggs and chives, black pork, spicy black pork, red bean and butter, and crab and cream cheese, there’s something for everyone!

The most popular choice is, of course, the black pork steamed bun, but since we can handle spice, we went for the fiery red black pork bun—and to us it was absolutely the best!

During the weekends the line is huge, but you get served very fast so do not get scared away.

GARLIC FRIED CHICKEN

There is nothing more Korean than a typical fried chicken. It is sweet and tangy and simply delicious. We ordered a small portion to be able to try more things in the market.

SASHIMI

The Seogwipo Maeul Olle Market has numerous stalls with aquariums filled with live seafood, where they mostly sell sliced raw fish. While the fish is incredibly fresh, the prices can be quite steep, so we decided not to try it.

Night Market

ABALONE FRIED RICE

If you haven’t tried Jeju’s abalones it is your time to give it a try. Of course, it is best to try them fresh at Ilchulbong with the Haenyeo woman. But this is an interesting and easy way to try them, if you are not so familiar with Korean food yet.

WHERE | Besides the entrance of the Night Market

BLACK PORK FRIED NOODLES

You will see many vendors cooking with high flames to attract customers. We had these noodles for this exact reason and think it was a good introduction into eating Jeju’s black pork. In case you are like us and do not really love eating pork meat.

WHERE | Head straight from the entrance of the Night Market to the opposite side
